Hello Yorkie Fans!
Zack Gedro, coming to you from my leather sofa in upstate New York! I just got up from my afternoon nap, and after exhausting all of my excuses to get out of
writing a Yorkie Times Editorial, I am finally busted. My Mom said it’s my turn to introduce the newsletter. Turns out, I got a great month to write about!
We have the wonderful guest contributors Penny Case, Rick Caran, and Bill Wynne (thank you both very much); and we have a wonderful tribute to a beautiful gal
down in Florida, Puddie. I’m delighted to introduce a new feature of the Yorkie Times: Mary Margaret’s Advice for Problematic Pups. To introduce our readers
to Mary Margaret, we have included a memoir from her. You will see that Mary Margaret is an “expert” on problematic situations, and from that vantage point,
she looks forward to doling out advice to both Yorksters as well as their owners. Send your questions for Mary Margaret to:
Dugmore@bellsouth.net . But while I have the Editorial column, I’m not ready to let go of my bully pulpit yet. My Mom has been reading a book that she has been talking about to her friends, students, colleagues and even our Priest. It’s called The Power of Now, by Eckart Tolle (1999, Novato Publishing). From what I gather from having to listen to my Mom talk about it, this book highlights the notion that the present moment is all that ever really exists. The past does not exist, and the future is basically a fantasy. The present is where joy and peace exist, if we are still enough to recognize and enjoy it. Now, I’m not sure why humans have to go out and buy books and read them to get ideas like this one. My brothers Buzzy and Pete have known our whole lives how to live in the present. When I hear the can opener, for example, I am totally focused on the present. I am completely immersed in “helping” my Mother expedite the serving of my dinner (through my cheering, of course). When we are on a walk, I am totally focused on the present. When I am taking a nap, I am focused on the present. You get the idea. It is hard to keep my humility as a Yorkie when it is clear to me that Yorkies are enlightened beings. Enjoy this month’s Newsletter, and remember to honor the present moment! (With your Yorkie)! |
